Who is Web Accessibility

by FIU WebComm on May 1st, 2009

No, I didn’t write the title incorrectly. This is to answer who is web accessibility not what. Many people think accessibility is just alt tags and needs of those with sight loss. But it is more, there are other needs that have to be addressed to be accessible.

The major categories of disability types are:

Visual
Blindness, low vision, color-blindness
Hearing
Deafness
Motor
Inability to use a mouse, slow response time, limited fine motor control
Cognitive
Learning disabilities, distractibility, inability to remember or focus on large amounts of information

Accessibility is a very important topic to me so we will be visiting this many more times.
